Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman rejected baseless claims by certain US media describing them as “sheer lies” and called on Washington to act responsibly and leave Afghanistan as soon as possible.

Saeed Khatibzadeh urged US to “end its catastrophic presence in Afghanistan instead of putting the blame on others,” mfa.gov.ir reported on Tuesday.

Khatibzadeh, who has recently replaced Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, made the remarks while reacting to some US media reports that certain governments have paid Taliban militants to kill American troops in Afghanistan.

The US is stuck in a self-made quagmire in Afghanistan and the blood of American soldiers is shed thousands of miles away from their country because of White House’s wrong policies, which have resulted in war and bloodshed of innocent people of Afghanistan for many years, said the spokesman.

He added that the US government, which has no response to the families of its killed soldiers in Afghanistan, is seeking to cover up its miscalculations by propaganda through its media.

Khatibzadeh also had categorically dismissed on Monday “baseless” claims by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Iran is sending weapons to the Taliban militant group, saying what is happening now in Afghanistan is the outcome of the US warmongerings in the Asian country.

The accusations leveled by the US secretary of state amount to a type of blame game and an attempt at diverting the public opinion from Washington’s instances of assistance to Daesh terrorist group, IRNA reported.

“What is going on in Afghanistan today is the result of US warmongering and intervention in the country’s affairs,” Khatibzadeh said.
