UAE's has softened its policy toward Iran; official
The head of the Iran-UAE Joint Chamber of Commerce, Farshid Farzanegan told Sunday that relation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Arab Emirates has improved and UAE officials have softened their stance on Iran.
Speaking to ILNA news agency, the Iranian official said “The United Arab Emirates seeks to improve its relations with neighboring countries through humanitarian action.”
The UAE was one of the first countries to send humanitarian aid shipments across the Persian Gulf to help the Iranian government deal with the scale of the outbreak.
“Due to the recent friendly behavior of the United Arab Emirates, the atmosphere between Iran and the UAE has softened,” he added.
Farzanegan said that the United Arab Emirates has decided to use the current opportunity not only to improve and expand relations with Iran but also for all of its neighbors, including Qatar and Syria.
“But we have to see how long this new strategy will continue and if our economic diplomacy works in the same way, this connection can be stabilized,” the chairman of the Iran-UAE Joint Chamber of Commerce added.
The spread of the coronavirus in the Middle East has brought “more reason and logic” to Iran’s relationship with the United Arab Emirates, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said last month.
Ties between Iran and the U.A.E., a close ally of the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, had deteriorated significantly after President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and the Arab country supported his decision to reimpose heavy sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
