Israel presence in Persian Gulf may trigger war, says Iranian official
Chairman of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said that presence of the Zionist Regime in Persian Gulf is illegal as it may trigger war and conflict in the region.
Speaking to ILNA news agency, he added “Any presence of Zionist forces in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman will inevitably lead to clashes between Iranian forces and the Zionists.”
“Zionists have repeatedly attacked Iranian forces on Syrian soil because the regime is at war with Iran. Therefore, their presence in the region is also a kind of declaration of direct war on Iran,” Iranian Member of Parliament said.
He refers to United States hopes to enlist allies for a military coalition to safeguard strategic waters in the Persian Gulf and added “US-led coalition will experience its biggest defeat in the region. Even during Obama's presidency, the US allied with 40 countries to counter Daesh terrorist group, but we saw that coalition was actually formed on paper.”
It was reported in Israel Hayom last week that Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz said, during a closed-door session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, that Israel was involved in a US-led naval mission protecting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Britain and the US have already joined forces to set up a naval security mission in the area. Efforts to include European allies have so far failed, with Germany saying that it will not be involved.
On Thursday, Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary Guard Major General Hossein Salami warned that any new conflict in the region would be a major threat to Israel's existence, saying "a new war will put the Zionist regime under a full-scale threat".
