Iraqi vice-speaker: Mecca summits have failed to make any achievement
“Saudi Arabia has failed to make any achievement in Mecca summits,” First Vice-Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Hassan Karim al-Kaabi said in an interview with ILNA news agency.
He refers to Mecca summit’s anti-Iran statement and confirmed that the focus of this meeting was fully predetermined against Iran and the final statement was made in condemnation of Iran but was wrong totally.
Iraqi vice-speaker said that the Iraqi president and foreign minister explicitly stressed that the draft statement was written without their approval and Baghdad was not part of the statement.
Al-Kaabi stressed that this statement should condemn all the aggressions carried out in the world from Palestine to Yemen and Syria, which Israel is behind the scenes.
He added that the war and sanctions against the Iranian people, either legally or internationally or morally are unacceptable.
“The nation, the government and the Iraqi parliament have always insisted that sanctions against Iran are rejected because these sanctions are against Iranian citizen,” al-Kaabi said.
Meanwhile, Iraq opposed on Friday a final statement released by Arab countries which leveled unfounded claims against Iran and called for collective efforts to thwart Iran's regional influence.
Iraqi President Barham Salih asked the gathering to support his country's stability, arguing that rising tensions with Iran could cause war. He voiced hope that Iran's security would not be targeted.
Persian Gulf and Arab leaders convened at two emergency summits on May 30 in Mecca, hosted by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman. The Saudi foreign ministry cited reasons for the summits as “sabotage attacks” on four oil tankers, including two belonging to Saudi Arabia, off the coast of Fujairah in the UAE, as well as the retaliatory drone strikes carried out by Yemeni army forces on two major oil pumping stations in the Kingdom.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned and rejected the unfounded claims in an anti-Iran statement released by Arab countries. In a statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said Iran is certain that such hostile statements do not reflect the views of all members taking part at the meeting.
