Iran launches armed drone mass production line

Iran has launched the mass production of domestically-made armed drone capable of firing cruise missiles, Kaman-12.

Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs, Sorena Sattari and Commander of the Air Force Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh presided over a ceremony to inaugurate the production line of the Kaman-12, on Thursday.

The aircraft can fly at 200 kilometers per hour for 10 straight hours, according to Iran Press report.

It can use an airstrip as short as 400 meters and covers a 1,000-kilometer combat radius.

The UAV weighs 450 kilograms and can carry a payload as heavy as 100 kilograms.

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on October 9, the Iranian defence minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami has emphasised that Iran is one of just seven or eight countries in the world which possesses advanced drone technology.

Hatami emphasised that air power is an important and integral part of Iran's defensive power, playing multiple roles in the country's defense strategy.
