Japan underlines will to continue buying Iranian Oil
Japanese Ambassador to Tehran Mitsugu Saito met with Advisor to the Iranian Parliament Speaker Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Tuesday and asserted that Japan is determined to continue importing crude oil from Iran.
Showing defiance to US' pressures on other countries to abide by Washington's unilateral sanctions against Tehran, Saito asserted that Tokyo is committed to the Iran nuclear deal of 2015, also known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"Japan is trying alternative approaches to continue import of oil from Iran and continue cooperation with the Iranian petrochemical sector," the Japanese envoy said.
In the meantime, Amir Abdollahian, for his part, described Japan as one of Iran's key economic partners.
He called for improvement of all-out ties between Japan and Iran, in particular in economic and parliamentary fields.
The official pointed to the US' hostile measures against Iran and noted that controlling Iran's constructive role in the region is the aim of US measures.
Saito, who submitted his letter of credentials on October 17 and is new to Tehran, announced, in his first meeting with President Rouhani, that his country's government and companies will keep relations with Iran despite the US' unilateral sanctions against Tehran.
In a related front on last Friday, President of Japan's upper house, the House of Councilors, Chuichi Date, underlined the need for closer cooperation with Iran, extending an invitation to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani for an official visit.
