EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy says The Iran nuclear deal is a key element of the global nuclear non-proliferation architecture and contributes to the security of the region, for Europe and beyond.

In an exclusive interview interview with ILNA news agency, Peter Stano pointed to the Vienna meeting and confirmed "We do not analyse on the meetings in Vienna publically, we are coordinating and chairing them. The intense talks and diplomatic contacts are ongoing to bring the JCPOA back on track.

"The EU has been working and still is working very hard to keep the JCPOA alive. The European Union remains committed to implementing the JCPOA as a matter of respecting international agreements and of our shared international security."

Asked if the United States was ready to lift all sanctions against Iran, he said that this is a question for the United States. The Biden Administration declared very clearly their interest to re-join the JCPOA and this is what the current diplomatic efforts are focused on.

"The ongoing activities in Vienna are an expression of all participants and the US to find a way how to bring the JCPOA back on track. There have been some moderate advances made in the past days and weeks. However, more work is still needed and nothing is agreed until everything is agreed."

Answering to question about will Iran return to full implementation of its nuclear obligations in the nuclear deal, Peter Stano added "This is a question for Iranian authorities. But this is one of the objectives of the current diplomatic efforts – to find a mutually agreeable way for a possible return of the United States to the JCPOA and on how to ensure the full and effective implementation of the JCPOA by all sides."
