Iran urges South Korea to take practical action in releasing its assets
South Korea must take practical action as soon as possible to resolve the problems between the two countries, including unfreezing Tehran's blocked assets, Iran's deputy foreign minister says.
South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kan, who was in Tehran as a member of the Prime Minister's Office, met with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday.
Referring to the South Korean Prime Minister's visit to Tehran, which is unprecedented in the history of relations between the two countries after the Islamic Revolution, Araghchi said "By exchanging staff at such a level, people expect a major change in relations between the two countries. Therefore, South Korea must take practical action as soon as possible to resolve the problems between the two countries."
He continued "The illegal action of South Korean banks in freezing Iran's financial resources has caused the loss of Iranian nation's trust as well as loss of South Korea's status for the Iranian nation which will not be easy to compensate."
Choi Jong-kan also expressed satisfaction with his second visit to Iran in the past three months as South Korea's deputy foreign minister, stressing that resolving problems and strengthening relations are among the top priorities in bilateral relations and the development of relations.
He also acknowledged that the damage to South Korean companies due to US sanctions against Iran was enormous and expressed hope that the new conditions would allow these problems to be resolved.
Referring to the recent terrorist attack in Natanz, Araghchi stressed that such actions against nuclear facilities, which directly threaten the people's health and safety, are a clear example of a crime against humanity that all countries must explicitly condemn.
On Sunday morning, an accident occurred in a part of the Natanz enrichment facility's electricity distribution network.
