In the current cropping year, CORC has purchased over 325000-ton tomato by agreed and supporting prices

Dr.H.shirzad, who is also the chief executive officer of the Central Organization of Rural Cooperatives of Iran (CORC), announced that in the current cropping years more than 235000 tones tomato has purchased by supporting price and the remaining have been bought through agreed pricing, CORC.ir reported

"The purchased volume of the tomato by CORC is a unique figure during the last 60 years", the official added

Noting that in the last year the tomato price has been drastically rebounded because of decreasing potato farms, he reminded that this has misled many farmers to enlarging the tomato farms, which have led to excess production in the current year

"Unfortunately, vegetable farming without any economic-based survey has been challenging the agriculture economy every year, nationwide," he said

Due to climate diversification, Iran has been ranked among the top ten countries of tomato producers; Production and processing of tomato have always been a lucrative industry. By providing market services, including purchasing and delivering excess crops into the processing factories, CORC has managed to support farmers against price fluctuations.
