An expert on international issues has said that the European Union generally doesn’t want to bear the brunt of disagreements between Ukraine and Russia.

Ferydon Majlesi said in remarks to ILNA that “European countries believe that Ukraine is now under Russia’s pressure and has been entangled in a dangerous political-security conflict with Russia so because of that they don’t want to bring the problems of this country inside the European Union block.”

Accordingly, the European Union generally doesn’t want to pay the price of differences between Ukraine and Russia and even the current aid being sent to Kyiv has political dimensions.

“That some Eastern Europe countries are against Ukraine’s membership in the European Union can be rooted in the security influence of Russia,” he added.

He asserted that “I don’t think that the European Union is satisfied with accepting a ruined territory that is called Ukraine as a new member.”
