Americans are exhausted of further warfare in the Persian Gulf; US Professor
“Coronavirus is a reminder that all of us face a common threat and we must set aside animosities over other questions to protect all of us against the danger,” a Professor of Political Science at the University of California (UCLA) Richard Anderson told.
The US Professor said to ILNA in an exclusive interview that I'm no supporter of the Iranian state but I oppose sanctions anyway. They punish people who have no part in government decisions and have little or no effect on people who are to blame if indeed those people are somehow to blame.
Referring to request from the U.S to ease sanctions hindering imports of medicines, he added “That said, sanctions that prevent medication and medical supplies from reaching human beings, especially those who have no choice in who rules them, are cruel; they are also dangerous for those who impose the sanctions and for those governed by the imposers of sanctions because the failure to heal humans stricken by a contagious disease exposes everyone else to contagion.
“Rather than lift sanctions, I would immediately ship medical supplies wherever the disease appears, to whomever it afflicts. I'm no doctor, but as I understand it, at the moment there is no medicine for the coronavirus,” he confirmed.
Richard Anderson pointed to the US next presidential election and said “If a Democrat wins the 2020 election, he will probably try to reinstate the JCPOA, but the Iranian side will probably refuse, and the Democrat will expose himself to a lot of hostile criticism that many Americans will agree with.”
“Still, the American public is exhausted by warfare in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan and has no stomach for further warfare,” he added.
