“It is hard to imagine an improvement in relations between the United States and Iran under the current US administration,” Political Professor at Cornell University told ILNA.

Matthew Anthony pointed to the assassination of an Iranian commander on Iraqi soil and said to ILNA news agency, “I see the attack as a dangerous and illegal act that risks increasing conflict in the Middle East.”

“According to the Charter of the United Nations the use of military force on the territory of a foreign country without its government’s permission constitutes a violation of that country’s sovereignty and an act of aggression.”

Asked why Trump's behavior and performance are so contradictory, Anthony said that there is no reason to expect what Donald Trump says to make sense, given his fundamental dishonesty and apparent inability even to recognize his own lies.

The U.S Political Professor added “If he genuinely wants to avoid war, he should be cautious rather than reckless with the use of US armed force, and he should rely on diplomacy.”

He confirmed “In my view, there are no disagreements between the US and Iran that can be resolved by going to war. Both countries need to commit themselves to resolving their disputes through diplomacy.”
