Iraq not follow the unilateral U.S. policy; Iraqi MP Told ILNA
"Iraq does not follow the outcast U.S. policy because we believe that these policies are unilateral." Ahmed al-Kanani, Iraq Member of Parliament told in an interview.
The Iraqi MP stressed that the continuation of unilateral American policies in the region would plague all countries in the region and ending all waivers on imports of Iranian oil make a multi-fold equation that America is unaware of them.
He added that The Iraqi government today does not obey the American dictates, but unfortunately, some Iraqi groups believe that Baghdad must adhere to such sanctions.
"Iraqi government is consulting with American officials to convince them that the interests of the two countries of Iraq and Iran are intertwined and that it is impossible to separate them." Ahmed al-Kanani continued.
He said that we believe that Iraq should persuade the American side to be exempted from sanctions.
US President Donald Trump has decided to end exemptions from sanctions for countries still buying oil from Iran.
The White House said waivers for China, India, Japan, South Korea and Turkey would expire in May, after which they could face US sanctions themselves.
This decision is intended to bring Iran's oil exports to zero, denying the government its main source of revenue.
Iran insisted the sanctions were illegal and that it had attached "no value or credibility" to the waivers.
