De Mistura appreciates Iran, Russia, Turkey for efforts on Syrian talks

UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura thanked Iran, Russia and Turkey for their efforts on setting up a committee to draft a new constitution for Syria, saying that the process is still incomplete.

In a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, he added that he and UN secretary general believe that necessary attempts should be made to set up credible, balanced, and inclusive committee.

He further noted that after new consultations with Antonio Guterres, he will present a report to the UN Security Council on Thursday on the process of establishing Constitution committee.

De Mistura also said that guarantor states of Syrian peace process in Astana play a crucial role in setting up the Syrian Constitution.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura is holding talks with officials from Iran, Russia and Turkey as guarantors of the Syria peace process in Geneva on December 18-19.
