WFTU Presidential Council kicked off in Tehran

The works of the first day of the WFTU Presidential Council Meeting started with great enthusiasm and participation on 26th February 2018 in Tehran, Iran.

During the 2-days meeting, the presidential council members will discuss and determine the WFTU goals and priorities for 2018.

Alireza Mahjoub, secretary-General of Iran’s worker house said that at this summit, representatives of workers from 24 countries from five continents have participated.

"We will address international and regional labor issues at this summit and board of directors of world Confederation of Labor will publish a statement at the end", he noted.

According to Mahjoub, In the Middle East, the war has the most negative impact on the lives of workers.

Iranian Parliament member added except war, poverty, unemployment, unfair wages and the globalization are other issues affecting worker's lives.

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) was established in 1945 to replace the International Federation of Trade Unions. Its mission was to bring together trade unions across the world in a single international organization, much like the United Nations.

Various countries include India, Nepal, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Greece, Indonesia, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Vietnam, Denmark, Afghanistan, Brazil, Sudan, Portugal, Cyprus, South Africa, Bangladesh, Peru, Congo, Gabon, Guyana, Italy, Nigeria, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, Venezuela and North Korea attended this summit in Tehran.
