Spokesman: British ambassador summoned to Foreign Ministry
Foreign Ministry has summoned British ambassador to Tehran to provide comments about British prime minister’s remarks about Iran on PGCC meeting last Tuesday.
FM Spokesperson Bahram Ghasemi told reporters that Mr. Nicholas Hopton received the serious reprimands for his fellow government for Theresa May’s remarks during PGCC meeting.
“Deputy-FM for Europe and American Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi voiced the objection that British premier’s remarks had been provocative, irresponsible, and dividing, and that no such rhetoric would be tolerated as norm of diplomatic conduct; FM expects to see no second remarks which would muddy bilateral relations,” he told reporters on Saturday.
“The remarks is in stark contradiction with British general policy on Iran following the fact that both countries had been working to improve relations by exchanging permanent ambassadors; Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy supports peace and security and unconditional help for battle against terrorism, while some countries in the region to whom Theresa May had been expressing favorable remarks support terrorism without qualms; the British authorities should open eyes to the realities in the region, and such remarks are at best surprising and at worst unfortunate,” Ghasemi told the press.
“Hopton told deputy-FM that he would communicate Iran’s very clear message of objection to his fellow government and the premier’s office,” he added.
