An official of Iran's Chamber of Commerce (ICC) said “Exports route from Iran to Iraq have slowed due to the protests at that country.”

Speaking to ILNA news agency, Ali Shariati added that if the unrest continues in Iraq, it will overshadow all businesses.

Referring to the rescheduling of the Baghdad exhibition, he said “As protests continue, it may be postponed once again because except for Iran, 40 countries are planning to open pavilion at the event.”

Iranian firms are set to take part at the 46th International trade exhibition which will be held in Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Established in 1968, Baghdad International Fair (BIF) is the largest annual international exhibition and promotional event in Iraq.

Commenting on the causes of the unrest in Iraq, he said: "The root of these clashes is related to economy issues. At present, Iraqi protesters are demanding the resignation of the government but we cannot say that what happen at the end."

“Iraq is an oil-rich country with a strategic position so for most countries its political future is important, and each has its own effect on this unrest.”

Answering to question about reducing exports and banning Iranian goods, he said "There is no talk of banning imports from Iran but the shipping routes are important and now they have slowed and if protest continues in Iraq, the situation may get worse."

Thousands of Iraqis have gathered in Iraq's capital Baghdad and across several southern cities for an eighth consecutive day of anti-government protests.

Demonstrators on Friday demanded economic reform, a government overhaul and an end to the country's quota-based power-sharing system, while also rejecting Thursday's announcement by Iraq's president when he promised to hold a snap parliamentary election once a new law is passed.
