Data released by Renault indicates that the company sold 99,617 cars in Iran during the first eight months of the current fiscal.

The report published on the company’s official website indicates that Iran has a 4% share in Renault global sales — the company sold 2.4 million cars globally during the eight months to August.

Renault’s sales report indicates 82% YoY rise in the company’s sales in Iran. During the same period last year the French auto giant sold 54,548 cars in the country.

The numbers include Renault cars produced by Iranian carmakers. However, the data does not provide details.

Two of Iran’s major automotive companies Iran Khodro and Pars Khodro produce two Renault models.

IKCO and Pars Khodro produce Renault Logan, locally known as Tondar90. The two companies produced 18,964 (IKCO) and 19,842 (Pars Khodro) units of the model in the first five months of the Iranian calendar year that started in March.

Furthermore, Pars Khodro produces the Renault Sandero which has become very popular with the younger generations. The company produced 19,116 units of the model during the five-month period.

Major auto parts used in the production of the two models are imported and the two locally-manufactured models have a10% share in Iranian carmakers total output.

Earlier in August, the French carmaker signed a trilateral production deal with Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran and a local private company Negin Khodro.

Renault has a majority 60% stake in the new joint venture, while Negin Khodro and IDRO have 20% each.

In addition to the locally manufactured models, four other Renault cars are available in Iran through imports, namely Symbol, Talisman, Duster, and Koleos.
