Iran sign up for World Energy Charter

Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian on Friday inked the document to join the World Energy Charter in the context of International Conference at ministerial level in Beijing.

Energy minister is also slated to visit Yokohama Smart City Project (YSCP) and the city's sewage treatment plant during his stay in the country.

Main objective of the current Energy Charter Conference is better reflection of new realities in the energy sector, especially energy growth in developing countries and cooperation of the participating countries in line with development and to counter common challenges in the energy sector.

In addition to Iran, Iraq, Cambodia, Quatmala, Union of the Central African states signed the document.

The Charter dates back to 1991 when representatives of the European states signed the European Energy Charter.

The Conference in Beijing brings together the European states signatories to the World Energy Charter and representatives of the new members signing up for the Charter.
