Trade with Saudi Arabia building up under Raeisi government
After a hiatus of two years in bilateral trade, Iran has exported $41,140 worth of commodities to its southern neighbor Saudi Arabia since Ebrahim Raeisi’s presidential term began in August, the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration told ILNA.
Speaking to ILNA news agency, Rouhollah Latifi said "of the total exports, $39,100 belonged to a type of glass used in traffic signs,” and added that the neighboring country also bought some 4 kilograms of saffron worth $2,000 from Sept. 23 to Oct. 22.
This, Latifi added, marks a new beginning in economic, political and cultural relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Over 120 tons of saffron worth $60 million were exported to 60 countries in the current fiscal year’s first seven months (March 21-Oct. 22), according to spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.
He explained that 75.54 tons worth $37.36 million were exported in packages weighing over 30 grams (bulk), 30.02 tons worth $15.33 million in packages containing less than 10 grams of saffron and 0.9 ton worth $7.05 million in 10-30-gram packages.
China with 24.52 tons worth $13.36 million, Spain with 17.61 tons worth $7.57 million and the UAE with 11.82 tons worth $5.79 million were the top three export destinations among 51 countries that bought packages weighing over 30 grams.
Iran produces over 90% of all saffron produced in the world, 80% of which are exported.
